The library sits within an existing warehouse building covered by a beautiful shed roof and enclosed on two sides by large windows opening onto public spaces. The light field and the privacy gradient quickly became defining elements of an otherwise undifferentiated space. The concept idea of the library intended as a forest of culture materializes as a strategy of inhabitation of the existing container. But rather than intending it as a metaphorical reference, eLS turned the forest concept into a real mechanism of material organization capable of being transposed, via computational techniques, to a layout scheme free from traditional typological constraints and segregations. The custom designed shelving system allows a full implementation of the parametric scheme.
